Thanks to NPR Music for providing the goods for my current musical addiction -- Regina Spektor's full album "Far" (click here to listen http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=105518205). If you've never heard of her -- think Tori Amos with catchier melodies and better piano playing. And if you've never heard of Tori Amos still click the link above... you still may end up hooked.
I've been a fan of Ms. Spektor's since her "Soviet Kitsch" days. And though not a pessimist by nature, with today's artists, it seems that the first album they put out (or that you hear) is always the best. And those that follow are a disappointment -- or at least not up to par. But with Ms. Spektor? Every album starts off as a pleasant surprise and somehow becomes deeply rooted into one's being. Every album. She has yet to disappoint with haunting lyrics, catchy melodies and a voice that leaves the listener longing for more. I'm truly grateful that audio files don't wear out like records, tapes, and cd's.
What do I do when I'm bored? I bake. Which, although productive, has made my kitchen just about as
hot as it is outside (I know, I know, more complaining -- I'm sorry). Now, I knew this would happen, so why do it? Because 1.) I'm a glutton for punishment and 2.) the end result* is worth it. In this case: carrot raisin muffins -- which taste way better than they sound. Trust me.
